Evaluation Services

The RCLD provides comprehensive, affordable assessment services for students experiencing academic difficulties related to reading, writing, math, learning, attention, organization, mood, and anxiety. Disorders commonly diagnosed at the RCLD include Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, and Acquired Brain Injuries. The services provided by the UGA RCLD include comprehensive standardized assessments for students with suspected learning disorders. Assessments not only identify learning disorders but also make recommendations for individualized accommodation packages appropriate for the postsecondary environment.

The UGA RCLD provides evaluation services to a number of different groups. These include high school students admitted to a USG institution and students attending a USG institution. At times, the UGA RCLD may be authorized to serve other groups, including technical college students, high school students not admitted to USG institutions, and private college students.

All individuals interested in an RCLD evaluation are encouraged to speak with the disability services office of their college or university  (admitted or enrolled college students) or high school guidance counselor (high school students) to learn more about RCLD evaluations, how to access the online referral packet, and receive assistance if needed.

Note: Evaluation of students under the age of 18 requires parent consent.

At the intake that occurs at the beginning of the evaluation, the student and parents (if the student is under the age of 18) must give permission in writing in order for the student to be evaluated. Once obtained, the UGA RCLD follows a two-phase evaluation process:

  • Day I: Clinical interview, testing of academic achievement in core areas (i.e., reading, math, and written language), and self-report questionnaires. This appointment lasts 4-5 hours.
  • Day II: A battery of tests to assess a student's cognitive and linguistic processing abilities, as well as other psychological factors that might impact learning. This appointment also lasts 4-5 hours.

After the evaluation is complete, the UGA RCLD reviews the results and provides telephone feedback, typically in about one week, and a comprehensive report is written.

The student is offered a feedback session with a staff member. The session typically lasts from one to two hours. In this session, the staff member will provide the written report, review the test results, make recommendations for academic accommodations and other support services, and answer any questions. The student may bring anyone to the session. This report will not be shared with anyone else without the student's written permission.

Some students prefer to have the report mailed to them and conduct the feedback over the telephone due to travel considerations.

The evaluation currently costs $500 (additional costs are covered by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents). Payment or proof of payment by a third party (e.g., Vocational Rehabilitation, Veterans Administration) is required at the time the intake packet is submitted. You will be prompted to submit payment when completing the referral packet.

Methods of payment include:

  • Credit card via UGA E-store by clicking here: Pay Evaluation Fee Online
  • Credit card by completing the payment form in the intake packet
  • Check made out to The Regents' Center for Learning Disorders or RCLD
  • Money Order

Third Party Payments (e.g., Vocational Rehabilitation, Veterans Administration). The client must supply the center with an Authorization for Services from the third-party giving promise of payment and detailed payment information.

Insurance. The UGA Regents Center for Learning Disorders does not file for insurance payments but will provide students with the necessary documentation so that they may file with their insurance carrier after they have made full payment. Students should be aware that many insurance plans will not reimburse them for this type of evaluation.

The first step to scheduling an evaluation is to call the UGA RCLD at 706-542-4589 to access intake packet materials.
