Students

The UGA RCLD provides a number of services for students. These include evaluation, training, and consultation services.

Evaluation

The UGA RCLD provides evaluation services for students experiencing a wide array of difficulties. These include problems with academic skills, attention, organization, social interactions, anxiety, depression, and many others. When these problems significantly impact functioning in the educational environment, they are considered Learning Disorders. Learning Disorders include Learning Disabilities, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism or Asperger's Disorder, Acquired Brain Injury, Depression, Anxiety, and other disorders that can create learning problems. UGA RCLD evaluations identify the source of student difficulties, determine if the difficulties are significant enough to require diagnosis, and allow evaluators to make recommendations for intervention, treatment, and academic accommodation.

The UGA RCLD serves students attending or accepted to USG institutions. However, at times the UGA RCLD may be authorized to see other students (e.g., those from technical colleges, those in high school not yet accepted to a USG institution). For more information on evaluation services, including eligibility criteria and how to schedule an evaluation, see Evaluation.

Training

The UGA RCLD provides training opportunities for UGA students in psychology, education, and related programs. Graduate-level clinical training opportunities include practicum placements and postdoctoral fellowships. Graduate-level assistantships are available on the clinical team and the research team. When possible, the RCLD offers PSYC4800, a course for advanced undergraduates who wish to participate in supervised research. See Graduate Clinical Training Opportunities and/or Research Training Opportunities for more information.

Consultation

The UGA RCLD is available to provide assistance to students experiencing academic difficulties. Whereas the UGA RCLD does not provide intervention, staff serve as resources for information regarding learning-related disorders, accommodation of learning-related disorders, and appropriate postsecondary and community resources for treatment and support. Students are encouraged to contact the UGA RCLD with questions.
